London-based spacetech startup Spaceflux has successfully raised $7.2 million in a seed funding round, marking a significant milestone in its mission to enhance space situational awareness (SSA). The investment, announced recently, will fuel the expansion of its global telescope network and advance its cutting-edge AI-powered surveillance technology.
The funding round was co-led by prominent investors including the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund (UKI2S), alongside Foresight Group and Blackfinch Ventures. This financial backing underscores the growing importance of protecting satellite infrastructure, which is critical to global economies and daily life.
Spaceflux aims to address the escalating challenges of space congestion and collision risks, issues that could have severe economic impacts. According to industry estimates, a major space collision could cost the UK economy up to £7.6 billion in a single week, highlighting the urgency of advanced monitoring solutions.
With the fresh capital, Spaceflux plans to accelerate the deployment of its proprietary optical telescopes, capable of tracking satellites and debris across all orbits. This will enable continuous monitoring and provide vital data to prevent potential collisions in an increasingly crowded space environment.
Marco Rocchetto, CEO and Co-founder of Spaceflux, emphasized the importance of this investment, stating, “As space becomes more essential to our economy and environment, it is also becoming more contested. This funding strengthens our ability to safeguard critical satellite technology and support a sustainable space future.”
The company’s innovative approach has already garnered attention, with early support from the Seraphim Space Accelerator. As Spaceflux scales its operations, it is poised to become a key global player in space domain awareness, contributing to safer and more sustainable space exploration.
